NJF Consulting is a company owned and operated by Nick Franey. Nick is an exploration geologist with a broad range of experience, from grassroots to advanced project (feasibility study) and near-mine operations. He has explored for most types of gold and base metal deposit in a variety of geological terranes, in more than 20 countries, on three continents.
Nick began his career with Anglo American in South Africa, as a field geologist, and rose through the ranks to become VP Exploration (Africa), before transferring to Perth, Australia as VP Exploration (Asia-Pacific). Subsequent executive appointments at Anvil Mining, OceanaGold, Discovery Metals, Azumah Resources and Renaissance Minerals have provided exposure to the mid-tier and junior sectors of the industry.
Nick’s first exploration success was the drill-out of the small Zandrivier Au deposit in South Africa, which was subsequently mined by the Eersteling Gold Mine. With Anvil, the exploration team tripled the Mineral Resource at the Kinsevere deposit in the DRC, to 2Mt Cu (in less than two years), and with Azumah, Nick’s team doubled the company resource base in NW Ghana to 2.2Moz Au.
As an exploration manager with more than 30 years experience, Nick promotes both technical excellence and non-technical efficiencies. He is an enthusiastic sponsor of research, when aligned with specific exploration objectives, and an advocate of testing new exploration methods and technologies to gain competitive advantage.
Nick has taught, at M.Sc. level, and is currently writing a book on Exploration Management.
